The horrific weather of saturday cleared and we woke up to a gloriously sunny day on sunday. Neil had planned a trip to the rugby for him and dad, so me and mum trotted off to the Oedo antique market, held in the courtyard of the stunning Tokyo International Forum. I often go to this market and always pick up some lovely items and sunday was no exception! I found some lovely kimonos and obis that now need to be made up into clutch bags.
After the market, we headed further east on the Hanzomon line to see a blue and white exhibition. It was arranged by a woman who has been collecting blue and white fabrics for 40 years. Most of her collection consisted of boro items. These are clothes that were worn by workers such as farmers, who dyed their cloth with indigo dye, which was thought to ward off insects. Whenever the cloth wore out, they patched up the hole with another piece of indigo fabric and over time, the clothing item became this amazing, organic patchwork. There were some beautiful pieces there, all displayed in a rugged warehouse along the river.
